Applied Materials is a leading semiconductor manufacturing company based in Santa Clara, California. As a global leader in the production of semiconductor equipment, the company relies heavily on an efficient and effective procurement process to ensure that they have the necessary materials and components to produce their products. The procurement process at Applied Materials is crucial in ensuring that the company can source materials, manage suppliers, and control costs, all while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency in their manufacturing process. By optimizing their procurement process, Applied Materials can improve their overall operational efficiency, reduce costs, and stay competitive in the semiconductor industry.

Our team worked on a project with Applied Materials a manufacturing company that operates on an international level. The objective of the project was to implement an integration between new procurement system and older ones for the company that could streamline their procurement processes, apply forecasting for material demand and improve the efficiency of their operations.

Project Scope

The scope of our project was to implement a procurement system that could handle different procurement workflows for the company.

We also needed to integrate our system with their existing SAP system using SQL. Additionally, we had to create some analytical reports and widgets using data warehouses.

Implementation Process The implementation process took approximately one year, with three months dedicated to testing. Two teams, located in Asia and the United States respectively, were involved in the implementation process. We utilized Scrum project management technology to ensure that the project was delivered on time and on budget.

 System Features

New procurement system was designed to replace the company’s existing local procurement system. The system provided real-time connectivity between the buyer and the supplier, allowing both parties to access the same system and apply changes to the purchase order, advance shipping notice, and delivery. We also connected our system with Hadoop to bring data and create some forecast reports.

 Impact

The implementation of integrated Procurement systems helped our client to improve the speed of their procurement processes. The real-time connection between the buyer and the supplier eliminated the need for multiple systems and emails, making the procurement process more efficient. The system also provided a centralized location for all procurement-related information, allowing the client to manage everything in one system.

Conclusion

In conclusion, our team successfully implemented a procurement system for an international manufacturing company, which improved the efficiency of their procurement processes. The system provided real-time connectivity between the buyer and the supplier, enabling them to manage the entire procurement process in one system. Our team utilized Scrum project management technology to ensure the project was delivered on time and on budget.
